Denise, Leslie, Me. I've been up since um... 5:30... 3:30... this morning... I dunno... It's now about midnite. 197 miles from Dunn to Norfolk, via Emporia. You only have to make one turn off I-95. A right at Emporia puts you on the road (formerly Suicide Strip... remember the sign?) US 58 heading east to Norfolk. You come in thru the Portsmouth Tunnel if you stay on the fastest highway and don't drop off some random exit, from where you must then retrieve yourself. Wait for the sign that is the closest to the area you remember. Pull off there. You'll have a familiar starting point, and a way to get oriented. Even following this advice, I was left puzzled a few times in a place I had recently lived. But subtle changes over three years, can be large cumulatively. My Last trip to ORF was in 2003, funeral for a friend. Fender was still with us, although it was his last week on earth. He had come with me to Norfolk, then. We walked some of his favorite trails. Only pieces of those trails, though, because his legs hurt him so. Ooo.. is this a one way now? Hmmmm... what does THAT sign apply to. Hey that's the team up top that sang "The Chipmunk Song" on RLC IV, I believe. I'll have to post that site soon.
