The 1342 was an odd amp. It was shown in every catalog
illustration with an 'inverted chassis,' ostensibly to give more cooling space
to the 'non-microphonic' tubes. Yet, I've found a few examples of the 1342 with
squared sides. Also, seems to me that as the tubes are 'in the attic,' so to
speak, this wide-bottomed design doesn't help with cooling at all. Maybe a bit
more stable...
For some reason, they added one more tube, vibrato and some roundier edges to
retire this amp as the 1343. Go figure.
Introduced:
Fall/Winter 1950 at $59.95
Retired:
Spring/Summer 1954 at $66.95 as the 1343

"Low, wide and handsome."
That's how they described the trapezoid shape of the1342.
Remember the elongated 'S' logo from the 1340? They show one on the Fall/Winter
1950 catalog listing for the 1342 as well. Again, I've never seen one, and it was gone
from the catalog by S/S 1951.
